A Comprehensive Guide to the Key Changes in the Brother S300/500/700Xd2 Machine Tools

Japan’s Brother machine tools, one of the leading brands in the machining industry, have introduced a major upgrade to their popular S-series machining centers with the launch of the next-generation S300Xd2, S500Xd2, and S700Xd2 models. The latest upgrade brings significant improvements, including richer configurations and enhanced machine performance, further expanding their range of applications.
Building on the S-series’ existing strengths in automotive components and 3C electronics, the new S-series Xd2 models are better suited to small-batch, high-mix machining applications in industries such as medical devices, prototype manufacturing, and semiconductors. For machining applications involving complex processes and a large number of tools, the new models offer a wider range of tool magazine configurations and greater machining flexibility, effectively improving production efficiency while meeting the need for greater manufacturing flexibility.
In addition, Brother has long been recognized for its energy-saving and environmentally friendly technologies and is regarded as a pioneer in energy-efficient machine tools. The newly launched S-series Xd2 models achieve another significant improvement in energy efficiency. Compared with the previous-generation models, energy efficiency has been improved by approximately 30%. While maintaining high-speed and high-precision machining performance, the new models further reduce customers’ electricity costs, helping them lower hidden operating expenses and achieve both higher productivity and greater energy savings.
1. S500/700Xd2 Models Feature the Latest Proprietary Operating System: CNC-D00
• A 15-inch large touchscreen provides a more convenient and intuitive operating experience.
• 500 MB of large-capacity operating memory increases the storage capacity for NC programs, work coordinates, tool databases, machining history, and other information.
• Built-in PLC, industrial network interfaces, and production management data exchange functions facilitate integration with automation systems and centralized shop-floor management.

2. Enhanced Machine Performance
The worktable dimensions and Y- and Z-axis travels have been further increased to accommodate the machining of larger workpieces.
Spindle speed and spindle rigidity have also been further enhanced, enabling high-speed machining, high-speed cutting, and the machining of high-rigidity components. The newly added toolholder chip-adhesion detection function and increased coolant flow rate for tool cleaning significantly reduce potential sources of instability during machining.
The increased Y- and Z-axis travels and larger worktable further expand the range of applicable machining operations.
Combined with the expanded Y- and Z-axis travels, larger worktable, and 28-tool magazine, the new models further extend their applicability to multi-face machining, process integration, and high-mix, low-volume production. A wide range of specifications is available to meet the requirements of a broader range of machining applications.

The series offers a rich product lineup with a relatively wide range of configurations for its class, providing highly efficient solutions for various applications.
Multiple specifications are available for X-axis travel, spindle configuration, and tool storage capacity. 5. Five-Axis Simultaneous Machining Option (5AX)
With the optional 5AX function, the machine can perform RTCP five-axis simultaneous machining, easily meeting the requirements for machining complex components in industries such as humanoid robotics, medical devices, and semiconductors, while effectively improving machining accuracy and enabling greater process integration.

6. S700Xd2-100T: Tool Magazine with a Capacity of 100 Tools
A new S700Xd2 model equipped with a 100-tool magazine has been added to the S700Xd2 lineup. The large tool capacity supports small-batch, high-mix production and, when combined with automation, enables extended periods of unmanned machining.
The newly developed 100-tool magazine (*1) can be installed, achieving both space efficiency and high productivity.
